Loops drag CTCFs (◀ and ▶ lanes) to move them
Contact probability upper: now; lower: averaged over time
Each bin is represented by its middle site. Between two sites, the effective distance d counts lattice steps and hops across loops (across a chain of loops side by side, a hop per loop and the junctions free), each 1. Treating the chain as Gaussian, the chance that two sites touch falls as d−3/2, which is what's plotted, from its value between the farthest sites (white) to its value between neighboring bins (black). Above the diagonal is the current state. Below it is the average over simulation time since the last reset (or restart, or change of bin size), each frame's state weighted by the time it covers. A leg meeting a CTCF from behind may be evicted, which unloads its LEF at once; a leg whose partner is captured is immune; a leg blocked by another or by the lattice's end speeds its LEF's unloading.
